Video Game Industry To Become Prestigious Entertainment
When speaking about the Video Game industry, it often takes a lower position than that of higher budget entertainment such as movies, tv shows and possibly some works of literature. But it is believed that video games will one day become possibly the highest, if not one of the highest, and most influential form of entertainment that there is.
As of now, you will still hear some of the media make remarks about video games being corrupt and bad influences on the children. Mainly video games that give you a sense of freedom that was not once offered in the young industry, a luxury that many modern gamers have come to enjoy. This is a luxury not offered in the movie industry, or even in the book industry, though it has been experimented with. The ability to do what you what, when you want and where you want is something that give video games the edge in the entertainment industry and can possibly attract a greater and larger audience. Though, this is an ability that will bring much joy and controversy alike.
But as the video game generations are passing, the consoles that they are being played on are becoming more and more powerful. With the increase of power in each generation passing, the game engines are becoming more robust and closer to a movie like quality. Look at games like Crisis that have high poly models, anti-aliasing, and powerful animations. Though that game is far ahead of the curve in terms of graphics, it is a clear showcase of what will soon become the normal standard in video games. When video games will be of that quality generally, you will most likely see an influx of new gamers into the mix, simply because of the graphical quality and animation to be offered in the near future. This will offer a cinematic experience like none other presented before in video games of the past, and it will basically become an interactive story book.
When games eventually evolve to that status, it will be in the hands of developers to market it enough to make a boom in the industry. When games are at a high point of graphics like Crysis, then they will basically become interactive movies. In which the next obstacle for the game developers to overcome will merely be of how to instill moral and story changing choices to offer a more robust story line and to give more power to the player. You will eventually be playing video games that have more than 5 different ending that are based upon the actions during your journey. This will most likely cause the remakes of tons of games that had potential in the previous generations, and the video game industry, I think, will become even more profitable than before.
Though, it is not known how early this scenario will come to be. The price for a console to produce exquisite graphics is quite high, and the video game population in general is against paying for such an expensive console, Sony’s PS3 is a testament to that. So the fate of video game consoles is an unsure one, due to the price it will eventually cost to purchase one. Many gamers have been saying, why buy an Xbox 360 or Ps3 when I can buy a powerful PC for the same price? That is a good point, but a lot of gamers can not afford some of the higher end PC’s available, which is why so many flock to the console market.
So the idea that the Video Game industry will eventually rise and prosper enough to become possibly one of the most prestigious forms of entertainment is not a completely absurd one. Especially since how the Nintendo Wii has attracted a mass of new gamers into the industry, which will translate into new buyers hopefully. As the video game industry expands, so will the fan base. The more publicity this baby industry will receive, the more of an impact it will have on the gaming public. Especially with ads now being placed in games to generate extra revenue and who knows, maybe in the future game developers will be secretly inputting their political views as well as some sort of easter egg. I, for one, look forward to seeing the video game industry expand and eventually dominate the entertainment industry.
