Vanquish Gameplay Impressions

SEGA Vanquish
SEGA recently released an exclusive gameplay trailer of their upcoming third person epic shooter: Vanquish. There is a lot that can be seen in this video, that hints towards it’s future performance in the video game industry.
Vanquish has a lot of good qualities, so it will be easier to start with that. The graphics of this game are clearly something amazing. The graphics work very well with the style that they are pushing for. The mecha fan will also find a lot to love in this, considering the enemies you fight are mecha’s and you are in a shifting suit of armor. The sound effects, which plays a heavy role in making the player really become immersed within the gameplay experience, are top notch. With game as mind-bendingly intense as this, that is a very necessary quality. This is, after all, one of Shinji Mikami’s creations, the name behind the Resident Evil series.
One instant and possibly major complaint that has already arisen from both me and hundreds of other potential fans is the lack luster voice acting. Just listening to the opening speech made by that elderly man, in the beginning, is enough to turn me off from getting the game. “We have to stop this from happening. We will…. stop this from happening.” Poor dialogue is always to be expected from a Japanese game creation, at least when ported to America, but it is still something that turns off many video gamers.
The game seems to be trying to be a lot of things. You can see some elements of Gears of War in this game, with the cover system. But the way PlatinumGames goes about achieving this is fairly refreshing. Your character has boosters of some sort, and you are able to boost yourself in a direction, which can be used when you want to get from behind one area of cover to another. The Vanquish gameplay video actually shows your character hop out from behind cover, boost themselves towards an enemy, and seemingly go into a bullet-time mode in order to get accurate shots. There is also the apparently hand to hand combat system and a points system. So linking together combo’s and good shots will boost your score up. What is left to be seen is if there is a leveling system of some sort.
Vanquish has already been dubbed as a 3D Contra, for the amount of bullets that will be raining in your direction. Of course, some may not like the difficulty that this has the possibility of presenting. But for those of you who are hardcore gamers and are into game such as Contra, Vanquish will most likely become the most played game of your video game library.
The Vanquish gameplay trailer has a lot of potential. If SEGA and the developers manage to achieve what they want in this game, in terms of development and features, this has the potential to branch off into a new series and become the next big thing in the video game industry.
