Valve Erroneously Bans Modern Warfare 2 Players

Left 4 Dead 2
Valve recently messed up and wrongfully banned a mass of Modern Warfare 2 players on the PC. Valve’s anti-cheat software made some erroneous decisions and not only are they unbanning you, but they will be offering free copies of Left 4 Dead 2 as an apology.
Recently, many players started up their Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 just to find that their Steam accounts have been banned by Valve’s anti-cheat software (also known as VAC). Gabe Newell, Valve president, says that the mass banning was a mistake, and to make up for it, the players will have access to the game again, and will be given a copy of Left 4 Dead 2 and one to give a friend, coupled with an explanation of what happened.
Apparently, whether you were a good player or not, you were banned due to a faulty signature check between the disk version of a DLL and a latent memory version. This is not a game specific mistake, and Steam allowed for the reversal of these mass bannings (about 12,000 false bannings across the span of two weeks).
Along with restoring access to the game, players have been given a free copy of Left 4 Dead 2 to give as a gift on Steam, plus a free copy for yourself if you do not already own the game. This is probably one of the few times that players are probably wishing that they have been banned. Although Left 4 Dead 2 has not been received as well as its prequel, it is still a solid zombie shooter, and to get it for free is nothing short of a bargain.
Take comfort in the fact that if you had your Steam account banned from playing Modern Warfare 2, it was not your fault.
