Sony: Hardcore Gamers Uninterested In Motion Controls

PlayStation Move
More to the point, Sony’s marketing officer claims that hardcore gamers actually look down upon the Nintendo motion controller, and that is why the PlayStation Move will come and take over the motion control scene, to make it more appealing to the modern gamer.
Peter Dille acknowledged, while speaking to the Financial Times, that the Wii has had a large impact on the video game industry and has enjoyed quite a lot of success. But, he claims, it is not the ideal experience. This seems to be true according to statistics taken during surveys. Although the Nintendo Wii is one of the best selling consoles of all time, it is one of the least active consoles this generation, with many people claiming that theirs is gathering dust. Can you blame them? With the lackluster video game library available on that system, it is bound to outlive its worth.
Dille went on to say that the Hard-core gamers have been unimpressed with motion controlled gaming. It is not particularly satisfying for them due to the poor precision and challenge, so it becomes more of a social gaming experience. Dille then says that Sony’s technology improves the precision, so would that make it less social unlike its counterpart? Not so. He says that they will have games family oriented games that are very social as well as the ability to do hard-core games with the motion device that have never been done before. It is too early to say what the signature game, the game that will showcase what the PlayStation Move is capable of, is at this point, but it may be revealed during the Spring or late Summer.
What will be Nintendo’s response to such a thing? Reggie Fils-Aime said a couple of months ago how Nintendo, as a company, would feel embarrassed if they had to follow another company’s lead, such as how everyone is now hopping into the motion controlled era. But how will Nintendo will when the PlayStation Move takes what the Nintendo Wii can do and beats it in every aspect? The PlayStation Move is more precise, the PlayStation 3 has heftier graphical power and processing, it has the ability to play both hard-core and family oriented games, and the online experience is far superior to that of the Wii.
Will Motion Controlled gaming really catch on with the main stream gamer? It possibly can, but one dire issue is that people do not want to make the transition. Motion controls require an entirely different skill set than that of the regular controller, where the whole layout is conveniently within a thumbs reach. Some people prefer being able to relax and sit still while playing a game, while others would prefer the ability to project your movements onto the character in front of you.
Most likely, the PlayStation Move will create a whole new genre of gaming. Where you will have first person shooters and RPG games, such as the famous Oblivion and Fallout 3, making use of the PlayStation Move in a way that will completely immerse the player. When Sony says that the hardcore gamers are uninterested in the Nintendo Wii’s motion controls, I can support that myself, because I am also weary of it due to its imprecision.
