Red Dead Redemption, Rockstar’s latest entry into that series, was originally set for a late April release in North America, but this date has now been pushed back to mid-May.

Take-Tow Interactive announced this delay today as they announced their quarterly financial reports, and it now has the North American release of Red Dead Redemption set to May 18th. This new date puts the North American version much closer to the European release, which is slated for a May 21st release.

The president and CEO of Take-Two Interactive, Ben Feder, explained that they shifted the launch of the game by several weeks into the third quarter because they believe this to be the best available time frame to reveal one of the highly anticipated next generation sandbox games to be made available.

However, there are fans that are not so pleased with the announcement of this delay. Why? Well, Red Dead Redemption has been placed in the same month for the release of Super Mario Galaxy, Alan Wake, Lost Planet 2 and Metal Gear Solid PW. Take-Two now has multiple AAA titles to compete with on the same week, which is putting games between a rock and a hard place. In any event, those of you looking forward to the release of Red Dead Redemption, be sure to have your money saved for reservations by May 18th.
