In a previous interview with David Brickley, the Rebellion senior producer, he avoided answering whether or not Alien vs. Predator would make use of dedicated servers. Well, now he confirms that the game will support it.

When asked the first time on the status of dedicated servers, Brickley danced around the question by stating that the team plans to support the game for many years to come. When asked a second time, he gave a fairly complex answer that many fans could not understand. What he basically said was that an operation such as that would cost quite a lot of money, and they are not yet sure what route they are going to head in. Rebellion is looking to make good use of their resources in order to allow your gaming set up to get the best possible video game experience. So when asked a third time, for good measure, he said that the team is still early into development and some things are not yet known. Of course, the importance of his answer is due to the decision of Infinity Ward to go with a new match making service for Modern Warfare 2.

Well, much to the satisfaction of AvP fans, Rebellion announced that they have always been in support of dedicated servers, and now they can confirm that it will be used for the upcoming PC game. Also stating that they have always been appreciating the fan support. This was a smart decision on their part, because many gamers would revolt if they decided to go for anything but dedicated servers in Aliens vs. Predator. For the simple fact that gaming companies would be expected to follow in Modern Warfare 2’s example, and leave old online gaming model behind.

With the posting of the previous interview in which Rebellion seemed on the ropes in terms of the decision, gamers were claiming that they would pirate the game if they made the wrong answer. It just goes to show how important their decision in handling the online service was for Alien vs. Predator, and dedicated servers seems to have been the correct choice.
