Panasonic is taking a step into the video game industry with the revelation of Jungle, a gaming console that was made solely for bringing your MMORPG titles on the go.

This news follows a previous report that a certain high-brow electronic company would reveal a gaming device later today. The Jungle is shaping up to be the very first portable video game device that is dedicated to providing gamers with a true online gaming or MMORPG experience.

Both the PSP and Nintendo DS have online access, I’m sure some of you are thinking. You are wondering how this console will be any different. Well, judging by the picture, the Panasonic Jungle will feature a qwerty keyboard, one of the necessities for online gaming. It will also come along with a touch pad and shoulder buttons, as many other handheld’s come with.

The device looks like it was designed to take damage. It looks a bit bulky and it apparently was not made with an aesthetic goal in mind. However, it is said to hone a high definition screen which caused some gamers at PAX to stare in awe. The internal specs are not known, as of now, but to be able to withstand high definition quality and to be designed for online games, many are speculating that it has to have the horse power to be able to fulfill all of its intended uses. According to Gizmodo, there is supposedly an HDMI port and Wifi support is certain.

This device is most likely going to cost a pretty penny. A device that hones a high definition screen, possible 3G coverage (if not only WiFi enabled), and average specs may cost you anywhere from $300 to $400. As many gamers know, at a price point like that, it would be destined to fail. This brings in the element of surprise. Panasonic most likely knows that the Jungle will be doomed if it goes at a price that is too high and they may lose money if they price it too low. We will keep you covered on the pricing as more information is released.

If Panasonic does succeed with the Jungle, this will be a momentous leap in gaming. This portable device aims to provide gamers with online gaming on the go, in high definition. Although the price point is not known, we can now have something to look forward to now that the product has been announced.

Great post- if they could get the price lower than $200, I think there will be a market for it.
