Modern Warfare 2 Matchmaking Service Detailed

Modern Warfare 2
The Infinity Ward community manager has announced IWNet, a new matchmaking service that will be used for Modern Warfare 2. This new service will end dedicated servers, and potentially change the culture of the PC gaming community as we know it, but Infinity Ward has been kind enough to allow some of this new service to be detailed.
Robert Bowling, the Infinity Ward community manager, says that IWNet (Which most likely stands Infinity Ward Net) will make the multiplayer more accessible to the Modern Warfare 2 PC community, which takes away the use of dedicated servers that are created by players. But the gamers to whom Bowling was talking to, when he revealed this information, did not seem so enthusiastic about the idea of losing dedicated servers.
This is changing the way PC Gamers have been used to playing their multiplayer games for some time now. Bowling says that by building the IWNET match making service in partnership with Steam, you are able to get in games and play with players of your same rank. But you are completely dependent on IWNet and there is no dedicated server or list. Meaning IWNet will handle the matchmaking and your games completely, though you still have the ability to have private matches. You have a wide level of control over the matches, allowing you to customize a large amount of parameters and rules for the game. But features that have been enjoyed under a dedicated server such as clans, hosting a modded game, or having custom maps seems to have a dim future ahead.
Custom content is what attracts andĀ keeps users interested over time, so how is Infinity Ward going to appeal to the Modern Warfare 2 community a year after its release? Bowling simply says that they have bigĀ plans for what IWNet will end up becoming, and it is hard to speak about anything specific on the service, because it is still in heavy development. This multiplayer service allows them to have more control and structure for the Modern Warfare 2 PC version, and from a development stand point, it is beneficial how they have the ability to access and update the game.
A lot of the PC community is not too happy with this news. But Bowling acknowledges how great of a change this is, and insists that it will help the Modern Warfare 2 community in the long run, as well as the Call of Duty franchise as a whole. So what are your opinions of the new Modern Warfare 2 matchmaking service, IWnet?
