Mass Effect 2 To Feature New Game Plus

Mass Effect 2

Way back in June, a Mass Effect 2 designer clearly stated that there would be no New Game Plus mode in the upcoming game, but now the community coordinator says that the game will indeed have that feature.

New Game Plus is a mode that allows you to play the game for a second time with the abilities and items you have gained in the first play through. It was originally stated that offering a second play through with such a mode would prevent a smooth progression from ME2 to ME3. The abilities system was designed in a way that would allow for such a smooth progression. Essentially, being able to do multiple play-through’s of the game would essentially allow you to master your character’s build, making the play-through a breeze. So when transitioning into Mass Effect 3, you would have what is considered an unfair advantage.

Many fans were quick to doubt at all the presence of a New Game Plus mode to be included in Mass Effect 2. It simply was a great feature that many of the fans enjoyed a lot. But you have now two people in the game development team that are saying two completely contradicting things. One person says that it will be included and one says that it contradicts a smooth experience and it will be left out. Who do you think you should believe for the sake of this mode in Mass Effect 2?

Well, for one thing, the community manager of the Mass Effect 2 development team recently stated the inclusion of this feature. Generally, the community managers are briefed about the status of the video game before they will even bother to make a public statement. The designer made the comment regarding the status of the New Game Plus a couple of months ago. So it is safe to say that the community manager most likely has a more accurate take on the matter than the out dated news prior to this.

So it is a pretty safe bet to assume that Mass Effect 2 will indeed have a New Game Plus mode that you will be able to play after you finish the first play-through.
