Lost Planet: Colonies, The Best Xbox Live Game Currently?

Lost Planet: Colonies is one of Capcom’s most notable contributions to the video game industry which is about three years of age, but how does it stack up against some of the current major titles on the Xbox 360?

Lost Planet has a distinct taste to it, when it comes to its graphical prowess and its animation. It is a timeless style, that may even look impressive still five years from its release date, or roughly two years from now. Capcom makes excellent use of motion blur in order to create an intense and unmistakable video game experience that will have you bragging to your friends and wanting more.

The single player content of this game, or at least the main campaign, gives all of you mecha lovers what you may desire. Although you do have on-foot combat, in which you are often engaging in a fire fight with a huge monster of some sort or its small minions, you may find a VS or mecha that you can enter to make the fights much easier. The mecha’s move as one would expect it would in real life. The mecha’s are often sluggish, yet very powerful and able to deal damage to multiple enemies at once. It comes with its perks. If you crouch and then jump, you will have a super charged jump that will send you flying, and your mecha’s often deal damage in one shot that would take you 5 without one.

The environmental designs in the campaign as well as the multiplayer maps are both satisfactory. Each level has its own aspect or feeling to instill within the player. In one level, I was playing Akrid Hunters and the level consisted of multiple caves. So when an Akrid that can roll is coming towards you, you are met with almost certain doom unless you are able to zip line out of the way in time. It is times like that, that make the online experience very intense.

What many love about the multiplayer portion of Lost Planet: Colonies is how not only is it good for those who only

brute-force their way through a match, but it also works well for those who are more tactical. You can get to higher and more strategic positions through use of your zip line, and you can take cover behind obstacles you may see on your way. Some of these obstacles may even be destructible, so when a rocket comes your way, you may see yourself dodge rolling for your life.

This game has timeless gameplay, which is why Lost Planet: Colonies may be considered one of the best Xbox Live games. Not only is it three years old, but it finds matches even quicker than some modern Xbox 360 games today. The Xbox Live gameplay is phenomenal and one can only hope that Lost Planet 2 will be able to live up to its predecessor.  I recommend all of you who own an Xbox 360 and have access to Xbox Live to either purchase the retail copy or buy Lost Planet: Colonies over Xbox Live On Demand service, it is very worth it and it is one of the best Xbox Live games available.
