Insomniac No Longer Making 60fps Games

Based on research that has been conducted, the Insomniac development team will stop making 60fps games. Judging that the frame rate of a game, whether 30fps or 60fps, does not affect the sales or reviews given.

As you know, Ratchet and Clank, which was recently released on the PlayStation 3, was created in 60fps. That is going to be the last game of its kind, coming from them. The community team for Insomniac held a survey, which returned results that made it  clear that a higher frame rate does not significantly affect the sales or reviews of a game. What is even more important than that is having a strong and stable frame rate.

People made the claim that the human eye can not accurately distinguish between 30fps and 60fps, but that is untrue, there is a difference, it makes the animation look smoother. But it is not significant to make much of a change, because some of the top selling games are only 30fps. Only a minority of players will notice much of a change in game play in terms of framerate anyway, so it s not really worth breaking their backs over anyway.

I doubt there will be any tears shed over this issue, to be honest. The time that was used to optimize the game for the 60fps could now be used to better the game in other ways now. Framerate is still important, and having a higher framerate may in fact be beneficial, but its impact is too minimal to place great priority on. Besides, you can still improve the overall graphical quality without having to increase it anyway, so it is not like your overall game play experience will be dwindled in any way.

This is not a make or break deal though, thankfully, and if they did not tell you about this decision, I am pretty sure the general video game audience would not have noticed at all.
