Hideo Kojima Explains His Method of Crediting
“A Hideo Kojima Game” is a line that many gamers have come to see if they have played any one of his games, such as Metal Gear Solid. This is a popular form of crediting and Hideo Kojima will explain what that credit line means.
Kojima, creator of MGS, states that he began using this title by his own choice. It has begun to be used by others recently, but he uses it because he plans the project, designs the game, writes the script, directs the game and oversees the project. He basically has a hand in every aspect of game design and has a great deal of influence on the outcome of the product.
Kojima goes on to say that this is a statement that he is responsible for everything. He does not add the line to games that he only produces. In example, he has not added this line to Metal Gear Solid: Rising or the Castlevania title that is under development, because he is only producing those video games.
Many gamers were upset at the way he sounds when saying this. Some think that the way he said that he is “responsible” for the game makes it appear as if he is the only one who deserves credit and those who had a hand in developing the game are less important. Responsible means that he is in charge of the over all direction of the game. If this game turned out to be a flop, the blame would all be cast on him. He has almost involved in every aspect of this game design and the success of the series is largely due to his talent and the direction he took Metal Gear Solid. So sticking “A Hideo Kojima Game”, three words, is a great way of accrediting himself and taking pride in how much work he has put into the series.
Hideo Kojima wanted to clear up why he places the “A Hideo Kojima Game” title card within his games, and I hope he did not make any enemies due to his explanation.
