Gears of War 3: Underwater Combat, Mech Suits and more!

Gears of War 2

Gears of War 2

Epic Games will  be meeting on the Late Night with Jimmy Fallon next to release its next video game. It is expected to be Gears of War 3, but what new innovations will it bring to the franchise to separate it from other third person shooters in the market?

According to Edge, the same reporter who announced that Epic Games would be meeting on a talk show on April 8th,  Gears of War 3 will feature underwater gameplay mechanics to add a new dimension to the gameplay. New weapons that travel underground and a new race of Locust enemies that can bypass your cover are other ways that the cover system will be effected.

Edge also mentioned that COG members of the Delta Squad will be able to utilize a heavy duty mech suit in Gears of War 3, according to a “US publishing source”. This is a great addition to the series, if this source is indeed telling the truth. The adding of mech’s will introduce a new aspect that appeals to a whole new genre of gamers. Since this is a game coming from Epic Games, you can be sure that the mech gameplay and combat will be something to be hold, definitely showing off what the Unreal Engine is able to produce.

This US publishing source is the same source that announced that Cliff Bleszinski was supposed to make an appearance on Late Night with Jimmy Fallon today to announce the next game, although this has been delayed to Monday, April 12th, because of scheduling issues with that annoying kid Beiber. Microsoft advertisers are helping to promote the show on Twitter, which implies that the game will be an Xbox 360 title, which gives further strength to the notion that the game being announced will indeed be Gears 3.

Epic Games, at the Game Developers Conference earlier this year, showed off new features of the Unreal Engine that powers the Gears of War franchise. These new features include advanced foliage for more realistic jungle environments and liquid metal rendering technology. When Kotaku contacted Microsoft for comments, they were simply given the common “We do not comment on rumors.”

But be sure to keep your Tivo set for Monday, April 12th, when Cliff Bleszinski appears on national television to announce Epic Games’ next video game.
