Gears of War 2

Epic Games has made no confirmation nor official statement regarding any specific information about Gears of War 3, but Edge has stated that they believe this sequel will be hitting retail some time in April of 2011.

Many of the series’ fans will be questioning what type of position Edge is in to be able to make such a claim. Well, according to them, a trusted US publishing source stated that Gears of War 3 will most likely be released April 2011 and will reportedly be teased on the 8th of next month.

Gears of War 3 is set to be released and developed by Epic Games, of course, and will further the storyline set in stone by the first two games. For those of you who are unfamiliar with this series, it revolves around a group of human soldiers, cogs, who are battling the Locust Horde for peace on Earth and to end the war. Having taken a large step up in story writing in GoW2, the sequel seems to be shaping up to be one of the greatest games ever released on the Xbox 360.

The original Gears of War debuted on the XBox 360 in 2006 and on the PC one year after, the sequel was released in 2008. Although it is possible for Microsoft to want to release the game sometime later this year, most likely in the fourth quarter, but there will be a lot of competition. Halo: Reach, Fable III, and Project Natal will be seeing a release this year which is formidable competition. It would be wiser to enter a release date that will not be in conflict with many of the other high-end video game titles out there.

Besides that, Mark Rein, the Epic Games vice president, stated earlier this week that there are no plans on releasing a game this year and they are instead focusing on supporting titles that are being made by users of the Unreal Engine.

Although this is just rumor, it is rumor that is backed up by fact. Avoiding competition with a release date is a commonly used tactic. Xbox 360 owners should definitely keep an eye out for the release of Gears of War 3 in April of 2011.
