My first tip is to stick with your team. Time after time of playing Gears of War 2, I see that the team who breaks apart tends to lose to the team who is tightly knit together. It is just simple logic, even a team of 5 intermediate players can take out one pro player. When you are in a team, or even just a small group of players, you will have someone who is able to cover you while in the heat of battle. I have had my life saved many times by a team mate who was able to kill someone who was sneaking up on me, that I didn’t notice. I also have been doing well and providing cover fire for my team who is out to get a weapon or simply during the heat of the battle.
My second tip is to be analytical. This is a core idea for those of you who like to play strategically opposed to running and gunning. Being analytical has allowed me to take out whole teams by myself. For example, if you see that the team follows a set pattern in which they run, at the start of a match, make use of some grenades and plant them. I have gotten double and triple simply by observing the path the enemy takes, and then planting grenades in anticipation. Some may think that it is a cheap tactic, but at the end of the day, you are the one winning, not them. Another thing is to allow your grenade plants to work with your team mates. If you see that your teammate has planted a poison grenade, plant your smoke grenade so you can stun and poison the enemy to death. I have done that while playing wingman with my brother, it works well.
No offense, but people in Gears of War 2 tend to be jug heads who want to run and gun throughout the whole match. It makes it easier for strategic players to take charge. For example, as I have been typing this post, I was in a Gears of War 2 match. The team was going to hold down the mortar weapon, and my team was already in a firefight with them. So instead of going in directly with my team, I flanked them from behind and got all three of them. Thinking strategically not only allows you to win the match, but it also makes you look pretty pro. You could dominate whole matches just by thinking strategically, so consider that next time you are on Gears of War 2 multiplayer.
