Final Fantasy XIV Up Against World of Warcraft

Final Fantasy XIV

Final Fantasy XIV

Apparently Final Fantasy XIV is expected to give World of Warcraft a run for its money. Square Enix seems to have high expectations of this game, though I think Blizzard is unaffected by the challenge.

Square Enix boss Yoichi Wada was asked what was Final Fantasy XIV’s chances were of challenging WoW for the throne of top mmorpg, and he says that it will be a tough competitor. However, he also says that the sequel to a big mmorpg has never been as successful as the original.

FFXIV may seriously be a threat to World of Warcraft. For the simple fact that not only will it be released on the PC, but it will also be on the Xbox 360. So it is reaching out to multiple video game audiences. One on the deciding factors of its success may also rely on the subscription pricing, if there is one. I personally will be playing this mmorpg, as long as the leveling curve is not too steep. I know many others who will be switching to this game as well, because of its fresh style and new game style.

World of Warcraft, however, already has consumer popularity, immense advertising and a loyal fan base. I am sure that it will not be phased much by the release of Final Fantasy XIV, but I am sure that some of their fans will switch. However, WoW is going strong still with constant releases and epic end game content. With such a track record of success with this genre of gaming.

Honestly, do any of you believe that Square Enix’s latest endeavor, Final Fantasy XIV, will be able to beat World of Warcraft?
