Dungeon Fighter Online Review: Nexon’s Latest Game

Dungeon Fighter Online

Dungeon Fighter Online

Dungeon Fighter Online is the latest game released by Nexon, and here is the SleepyGamers review for it. The game less than a quarter of a year old, how is the fan reaction to the game so far?

Dungeon Fighter Online is a 2d side scrolling fighting game, which a choice of five characters so far. The characters being a slayer, fighter, priest, mage and gunner. Each of these characters have multiple class choices after becoming level 18, and a further class choice after wards. The game wins no awards for its lack of customization for characters, but do not be so quick to count DFO out just yet.

I will start off with the best, or at least my favorite, feature of DFO first. That being the amazing combat of the game. For those of you who are retro gamers, you definitely will find some enjoyment out of this, especially those of you who are former fans of the Streets of Rage franchise. Whether you are playing player vs. player or player vs. monster, you will be able to find some enjoyment out of the combat and combo system that this game has implemented. The combat starts off a bit slow in the beginning stages, for you are not your second class yet, and you do not have many skills. But once you reach your second class, you will have access to many skills. You will then find yourself able to do your regular three hit combo, break the three hit combo into a skill that launches the enemy into the air, then be able to come up with other ways to link it into a combo from that point. Not only that, but if you are playing with a friend, you literally have the ability to do endless combos.

I am a Monk (second class of the Priest), my friend is an Exorcist (second class of the Priest) and my brother is a Grappler (second class of the Fighter). The fighter has a skill with which he is able to charge and throw an enemy in a direction. So he does that, then the exorcist uses his heavy smash attack to launch the enemy into the air. I then time my grab, as the Monk, to catch the enemy and toss it back to my brother, who then uppercuts the enemy back into the air. Then we continue the combo from there, and we have dominated pretty much every boss match with this team work.

The graphics and the animation of the game is top notch. I mean, how much better can the graphics of a 2d game get, to be honest. There is not much to be complained about in that department, the animation is very smooth and there is a lot of effects to be enjoyed. The music is not bad, but thankfully, there is the option to shut off the music and leave the sound effects, so you can simply mute the in-game music to replace with some music of your own. Which is what I do, since I would much rather listen to my own things.

The dungeon system is interesting, to say the least. There are four levels to a dungeon, regular, Elite, Masters and Kings Road. With each level, the difficulty of the dungeon is increased, but the items gained from the dungeon are far more favorable. This is an interesting set up, because you have the whole dungeon to yourself, and the more special enemies you encounter and defeat, the more bonuses you get at the end of the level. At the end of the dungeon, you pick two cards, which will reveal a prize sum of gold, as well as an item if your lucky. The harder the dungeon and the more special enemies defeated, the better the items will be.

All in all, I get quite a lot of enjoyment from Dungeon Fighter Online. You could expect nothing less from a company such as Nexon anyway. There is not a lot of great online games to play out there, in terms of Mmorpg’s, I personally believe. This is one of the better ones made available to you, especially if you have no problem paying for Nexon Cash. So if you are looking for a new game to play, I certainly recommend Dungeon Fighter Online.
