Dark Void Demo Impressions

Dark Void

Dark Void

The Dark Void demo was released onto Xbox Live fairly recently, however it does not seem to live up to the hype that it was given.

To start off, Dark Void is not a horrible game. It is a fairly stable and well made game for the Xbox 360. However, compared to some of the top notch games that are already on Xbox 360 and Xbox Live, it can not compare. Why you may be wondering? The aiming mechanics are way too wild and inaccurate. I am not exactly sure if the sensitivity is just too high, or if that is how the function was simply developed. But trying to shoot enemies while on your feet can be quite the task. But in all fairness, going into precise aiming mode will reduce the hectic aiming, but hip firing is next to impossible.

But now that is out of the way, the flying mechanics are superbly done. You are able to do full fledged flying and hovering with the use of your jetpack, which also includes firing bullets with your jetpack. You are able to do in-air maneuvering such as barrel rolls and everything else that you would expect to be do. One thing that I find is a problem is a bit how it is hard to aim while barrel rolling, as it should be. But the controls for barrel rolling could be a bit more practical I think. Besides that, you are able to speed up and slow down, and even high jack other air crafts and drive those and use their weaponry.  One thing I would appreciate is if the game would offer water effects when you are going high speed near the water, such as how it was done in the Super Man game. It just makes it a bit more epic.

The graphics over all are well done. It looks well made and on par with many of the other video game titles available on the Xbox 360. It can look pretty epic when flying towards the sky in high speed towards the sun, and seeing the blur lines around your torso. It is nothing special, to be honest, though. The title screen is a bit plain, however. The gui is nothing special, and it looks to me as if the only selling point of this game is the flying system. Though we will see how things go on from now. The music is nothing special to me either, because I do not remember one part of it.

All in all, my standards have been raised over the past months due to having played all of the top games. But for those of you who have a lower standard and a like for variety in video games, be sure to try out the Dark Void demo that is out on Xbox Live now.
