Classic Grand Theft Auto Trilogy Headed For Mac Release
Rockstar Games said that they will bring Grand Theft Auto III, Vice City and San Andreas to Mac users later this year, while answering reader mail yesterday.
Giving the user a great response, they said that we can look forward to seeing the classic Grand Theft Auto Trilogy (Grand Theft Auto III, Grand Theft Auto: Vice City and Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas) coming to the Mac most likely later this year. They will have a proper announcement with further information coming soon.
These games are probably already accessible to those Mac users with enough prowess and strong enough specs to be able to install a copy of Windows via Boot Camp. However, this would require more processing power and a native version would make things so much easier for the players. It is also great for Rockstar as well, since they will be expanding their GTA fanbase to another platform.
It is a big deal for those rabid fans who wanted to be able to enjoy the experience of a Grand Theft Auto game while on their Mac. The trilogy probably will not see any huge numbers in sales, nor do I think they expected to. The Mac gaming fanbase is fairly small and these games have been out for years. If one wanted to play it, they probably would have already. But in terms of reaching out to a minority and trying to attract potential users to the fanbase, this is a good offer by Rockstar Games. This gives hope to Mac users that maybe Rockstar will offer native Mac support for Grand Theft Auto releases from the start, which would make things smoother and probably improve the sales by quite a bit.
There are no details, as was said, on the pricing of the GTA trilogy, but be sure to look forward to its release this coming holiday season.
