Call of Duty: Black Ops Customization and Personalization Detailed
Treyarch released a Call of Duty: Black Ops video that gives us a look into the customization aspect in multiplayer; going into detail about how the in-game currency will be used to allow players to personalize their characters.
Dan Bunting, online director for Treyarch, opens by saying customization and personalization were two very important aspects of multiplayer in Call of Duty: Black Ops. They wanted to make players feel like they were making the game their own.
All of these customizations, however, will come with a price associated to it, due to the in-game currency.
David Vonderhaar, the game’s design director, said that the currency system will be different from that of a leveling system. Before, you would be required to unlock content as you progress and level up. Now, however, as you progress, you will only unlock the main features. But you do not unlock them one at a time, you unlock them all at once (such as unlocking Perk 1 and getting all of the perks in that category), and you have to pick which specific perk you want to buy.
Currency is a multiplayer only feature and is earned at each rank progression. As many of you know, it can also be earned, in better quantities, during wager matches.
Bunting went on to say that you can use currency to buy weapons, weapon attachments, camo skins, to customize red-dot sight reticules and more.
The Treyarch team makes it very clear that they want the player to be able to create their own online identity in Call of Duty: Black Ops. I think it is pretty safe to say that this may be the first entry in the series to offer such detailed customization. Up until now, every player basically looked the same, on a given team. Now, you will be able to customize both your weapons and characters in Black Ops.
Keep an eye out for Treyarch’s latest entry into the Call of Duty series, with Black Ops, as more information unfolds.
