Call of Duty: Black Ops “Combat Training” Mode

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Call of Duty: Black Ops

Treyarch will be introducing multiplayer matches that include AI opponents into Call of Duty: Black Ops, the latest game in the COD series. Combat Training, what the mode is called, is designed to familiarize the players with the many maps that this game offers while offering them useful training before entering the highly competitive multiplayer world.

There is a large segment of Call of Duty players that will never take the game online, whether it is due to difficulty or lack of interest. “Combat Training” is designed to help new players become used to the maps and match structure of online play, while offering a challenge to mid-level or veteran players.

Mark Lamia, CEO of Treyarch, stated that Combat Training will be a complete standalone experience. It can hold other live players as well as bots.

This is receiving a lot of flak from potential fans of the series already. Many people are worried that this new independent progression system will only lead to further and worse exploitation from unfair players. But regardless of what the current mindset of the gaming community is, regarding this game, I am pretty impressed with Treyarch’s attempt at differentiating the game this time around, instead of blatantly copying Infinity Ward and adding little content.

Call of Duty: Black Ops’ Combat Training mode is a great idea, and should actually become the standard for shooting games. When playing online, you will often find that you will be at a horrid disadvantage when you are new, for the simple fact that you do not know where the enemy spawn points are, where the usual camping spots are, or how to navigate the map. This mode is a great way to familiarize a person with the maps before getting online and getting a crash course in map navigation. COD: Black Ops may actually attract some of the fans that swore to leave the series after Infinity Ward was largely dispersed.

This mode will have its own progression system, to keep players form exploiting the bots for advancement and currency in the game’s new Call of Duty Points system. COD: Black Ops’ Combat Training mode is probably the best idea I have seen from Treyarch in quite a while.

  2. dls 24 October 2010 at 2:07 pm #

i hope we will be able to. like split-screen, but than better. or with lan networks.

Combat Training is best Treyarch decision, because it will feature split-screen mode, as well as ability to play with bots online. Player will be able to choose bots level (recruit, regular, hardened or veteran), so it will be perfect to learn basics, other game features, and get ready and be competitive for multiplayer. Call of Duty Black Ops will be most interesting game, it will deliver new winds for FPS games. Officially left to wait: 11 days, 5 hours, 35 minutes, 20 seconds from now. – PLEASE WAIT -

You do not have to be online, this supports offline co-op, if I’m not mistaken.

There is a large segment of Call of Duty players that will never take the game online, whether it is due to difficulty or lack of interest. how retarded are these creators at infinity ward. i know 5 people with this game series who do not play this game because we do not have fucking high speed internet.

Can’t speak for other platforms, but you WILL *NOT* be able to play the Combat Training mode on an Xbox 360 unless you are connected to Xbox Live and have a Gold subscription.

Yes, this is from my own from experience and yes, this does suck.

I think that they should have put on an offline co-op missions, there is nothing better than have a budy over to play the latest game and he has to sit there and watch you play the missions. the zombie game is ok I guess, but I would have much rather been shooting it out with the enemies and running around blowing stuff up. I guess we will not be playing this game with the guys come over, borderlands it is.

I thought you could play offline. All you have to do is go to the online menu, (not play online), and set the game options to how many dummies you want and how many friends. By the way, I can’t even find the screen that says combat training. where can I find that?
