Brink versus Modern Warfare 2

Brink is an upcoming game being published by Bethesda and developed by Splash Damage. It is receiving a lot of publicity for its amazing promise and complex gameplay. However, Modern Warfare 2 has already been released by Infinity Ward, breaking a guiness world record. But which first person shooter will most likely be the better game?

Lets just debunk any nay-sayers about comparing these two amazing first person shooters first. They may say, Modern Warfare 2 does not resemble Brink in any way what-so-ever. But they actually do. Both games are first person shooters that aim to provide an amazing and long lasting multiplayer service, although the developers go about achieving this goal through different means.

Now, to get into specifics. Modern Warfare 2 is the latest installment of the Call of Duty series that brought success among grave rumors and controversy. Modern Warfare 2 has one of the most entertaining storyline in the whole series thus far, in the opinion of many fans and video game players. Instead of having the general kill the general or accomplish this goal, such as the prior stories, this one has much more emotion placed into it. You will embark on a journey of betrayal, strife, danger and emotion. The writing in MW2 is truly epic and provides for an amazing single player campaign.

The multiplayer mode has been refined slightly. There are now more modes you can play, such as capture the flag, and

there was the introduction of the seemingly tacked on third person player mode. The matchmaking service has been redefined and the perk system has been redone. To start off, the max level you can achieve is now 70 and there are still 10 prestige’s. All of the perks now have a pro version of it, where you get an added benefit. Such as how the cold blooded basic perk gives you the ability to not show up in infrared vision, and the cold blooded pro version will make it so when an enemy aims at you, their cross hair will not turn red.

Brink, being developed by Splash Damage, is about a utopian city known as “The Ark” that is experiencing a civil war between the security force and the resistance. There are multiple things that Brink offers that is unmatched by Modern Warfare 2. For one, the graphics are superbly better, whether it is because of the shortened scope of the game or simply better technology. This is a highly stylized looking game that has well thought out and created environments that you can trek through. There is the great option of character customization, which Modern Warfare 2 does not offer what-so-ever. You can alter the hair, faces, clothes and body type of your character to fit the type of gameplay that you will aim for. Clans in this game may not be just recognized by name now, but by appearance, such as every member having a specific tattoo or color of clothing.

Brink also makes use of their custom SMART (Smooth Movement Across Random Terrain) Freerunning System. This is an amazing feature that will possibly remind you of Mirror’s Edge in a way. You will be able to reach high ledges and cross areas in stunning fashion as you hop off objects and obstacles smoothly in a parkour fashion. Not only that, but there is a cover system as well, even if basic. The cover system allows you to peak around corners in order to blast your enemies, which can now enhance this experience into what may be a “peek-a-boo with bullets” type of gameplay.

These are the two features that make Brink stand out of the bunch of first person shooters out there. It does offer a leveling system, but so does Modern Warfare 2, so it does not make it stand out as much.  The difference and style and gameplay will judge how well received this game will be by the public.

But when you pit Brink versus Modern Warfare 2, how well can one expect it to do? The main reason people may think that Brink will lose to Modern Warfare 2 is because MW2 already has a set and loyal reputation. Since it is apart of series of already successful games, the mere name already gives it the advantage. Brink will have to raise its public popularity by scratch, although the fact that it is being published by Bethesda may help it a bit. I personally think that Brink is a much better first person shooter than Modern Warfare 2, but people are bound to disagree.
