Borderlands Free Level Cap Increase
Randy Pitchford, Gearbox Software president, announced, at their PAX panel, that they wil be raising the Borderlands level cap from 61 to 69, for free.
Pitchford said that the level cap will now be 69 and the update will come out close to the release of Borderlands Game of the Year edition in late-October.
Gearbox’s president then went on to say that he felt they could not go up a full 11 levels as they did in The Secret Armory of General Knoxx, their past paid downloadable content, because they did not want to put another level cap increase at a cost. He says that the way the Borderlands DLC is structured would require that anyone who would want to get the new level cap from new paid DLC would have to buy all the previous Borderland content releases as well, which is no good. He wants this to be a gift from Gearbox to all the players, at the very low price of free.
This is shaping up to be great news for both Gearbox and Borderlands fans. Gearbox has been doing a lot and has arguably stolen the show at PAX this year. They not only showed progress with Aliens Colonial Marines, but also gave a release window for Duke Nukem Forever. Gearbox has been doing a good job at offering incentives for coming back to Borderlands.
This eight level increase in the cap will be available for download in a free patch for the PC, Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3. The patch will also offer some balancing edits to the game which is expected to hit this fall.
