Black Creator Opinion on Modern Cover Based FPS’s are boring

Stuart Black, the creator of the 2006 FPS: Black, is now with Codemasters and he says that he cannot stand cover-based shooters due to their slow pace.
Black, made by the Criterion team, was released for the Xbox and PlayStation 2 and was quite hyped up. Even with all that hype, it only amounted to the value of a standard video game of the time. He is now at work on a new shooter at Codemasters which will most likely be another fast paced shooter, although not a sequel to black.
Speaking to the Official Xbox Live Magazine, Black states that modern FPS’s tend to be too slow paced for his tastes. There are many cover-based shooters out at the moment, and he dislikes how an enemy hides behind something, you pop a couple of rounds in his head, and then he just hides back behind cover again. I guess Black’s problem with games like these are that the enemy has far too much defense, and the ability to use cover slows down the pace of the gameplay.
To be honest, I can understand where he is coming from, Gears of War 2 can be quite annoying on the hardcore difficulty modes and you have an enemy with a high amount of health, killing them and awaiting to get through all of them can be annoying. Since they hide behind cover frequently and pop out real quick to kill you. However, with a game such as his, he should not talk, since he broke no boundaries with his games and made no real dent on the video game industry.
