Battlefield Heroes Ruined by Update

Battlefield Heroes

Battlefield Heroes is an online shooter by EA, a light hearted addition to the franchise, that has had a fairly positive fan reaction. That is, until their recent update for the game that will possibly alienate half of their fanbase.

Originally, the game was fairly balanced. That is, until EA decided to turn their fairly consumer/player friendly system into something hazardous. You start off the game with standard weapons originally, and you can not really upgrade that through leveling up. The way you are able to increase your arsenal is by gaining valor points, which is gained through playtime and combat, or by BattleFunds which is purchased with real currency. Naturally, the appeal of a free online game is the “free” portion, while allowing for a balanced experience. The problem here is that EA removed that balanced experience and now just offers a free online game.

EA has now greatly raised the VP required for all items in their online game store, and greatly decreased the BP required for purchasing the same items. Not only that, but the rentals time period has been changed. You are now only able to lease weapons for 1 – 3 days, instead of months as previously allowed. This basically favors those who are able to pay for the game, and shuns those who are not. This will basically turn the game on its head now, because now the players who do now pay will simply not be able to use a useful gun. It is estimated that you would need to play the game for 5 hours a day in order to be able to keep one weapon, which is nothing short of ridiculous.

This has received a raving backlash by the fan base, because that is simply a bad decision by EA. The game was said to be doing well, reaching over one million members. There was a population in the game that did make use of the cash shop, and there was a great amount of people who actually enjoyed playing the game for free, though they could not pay for it. They were pleased by being able to rent weapons for a reasonable amount time, and that was taken from them.

You can go on the official Battlefield Heroes website and see the opinions of the players. EA has not responded as of yet, but it seems as if they will have to in order to save this game from sure demise.
