Activision Responds To Tim Schafer’s Remark

Brutal Legend

Brutal Legend

Tim Schafer, the mastermind behind titles such as Brutal Legend and Grim Fandango, called Bobby Kotick, Activision Blizzards boss and one of the most hated men in the video game industry, a “total prick”, “dick” and other remarks. While no mention of the insults were made, Activision will not have Bobby Kotick’s liking of games to be questioned.

Activision responded to Schafer by defending Kotick’s like of gaming. Maryanne Lataif, Senior Vice President of Corporate Communications at Activision Blizzard, says that the claim that Bobby Kotick makes a big deal about not liking games is nonsense. Kotick has always been “passionate” about games and “loves” the video game industry. As the CEO of such a successful company, it makes it difficult for him to squeeze in time to play games as often as he used to. Which is reasonable, I suppose. Lataif goes on to say that Schafer, as he said himself, has never met Bobby Kotick.

Activision is taking the higher ground here by completely ignoring the insults hurled at him. But an attempt at making Kotick sound like a caring man would have been humorous to see. To be honest, Kotick is not liked for a reason. He often makes inflammatory comments about video games, and has done some shady things. Lets not forget the whole situation between Activision and the destruction of Infinity Ward over ransomed royalties. Bobby Kotick, if nothing else, is an efficient business man, and I respect that. But passionate about gaming is one thing I may have to disagree with.
