Brutal Legend Demo Impressions

Brutal Legend

Brutal Legend

Brutal Legend is an upcoming comedic action adventure game that puts you in the shoes of Eddie, a hardcore Metal Rocker. You are immersed into the world of this dark metal rock sense and you fend for yourself. The Brutal Legend demo will come out to be just about 2gb on the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3.

The demo starts off with a cinematic that I did not bother watching. After hearing so much about this game, I convinced myself that I would not be so interested in the story line. The main grabbing point of this game is the action which is what I have been heard being praised countless times. Luckily, the demo allows you to skip these cinematics and hop directly into the action. You start off without a weapon, faced with hooded enemies coming after you. You evade them and make your way to the giant bludgeoning axe in the center of the stage, with which you begin to strike the enemies with. You have your standard block, attack and linking attacks to form combos. It was a pretty solid game there, no complaints. After which, you then get the compliments of the guitar, which the hooded figures are not able to touch for some reason.

The guitar is basically your source of magic, with which you are able to inflict damage on your enemies with. You can make fire erupt from under them, or strike them with lightening. Spamming the lightening skill will cause the guitar to go on fire, preventing you from making use of it any further until it cools down. Not only that, but you get an area of effect attack in which you are able to jump up and then come down to the surface with crushing force, disabling your enemies and causing some destruction in the surrounding environment.

The environment and graphics look superbly made. There are no complaints there definitely, though the sound track is basically something that I would never listen to. Those of you who are metal fans will definitely get some enjoyment out of it though. Jack Black is the main voice for Eddie, which would be good for those of you who are fans. While I have not completed the demo as of yet, that opening segment gave me enough of what I need to know about the game play so far. This game is a mixed bag, I think. It will simply appeal to some while be hated to others. It is a case of hate it or love it. In my case, I am not so interested in the game simply because I have better choices as of now, but those of you who are avid gamers looking for a new game to add to the collection, this would not be a bad decision to get. Brutal Legend is going to definitely be one of the highlights of this year, so check out the demo and let me know what you think!
